چکیده

Regulatory authorities worldwide have found the nonnutritive sweetener, sucralose, to be noncarcinogenic, based on a range of studies. A review of these and other studies found through a comprehensive search of electronic databases, using appropriate key terms, was conducted and results of that review are reported here. An overview of the types of studies relied upon by regulatory agencies to assess carcinogenicity potential is also provided as context. Physiochemical and pharmacokinetic/toxicokinetic studies confirm stability under conditions of use and reveal no metabolites of carcinogenic potential. In vitro and in vivo assays reveal no confirmed genotoxic activity. Long-term carcinogenicity studies in animal models provide no evidence of carcinogenic potential for sucralose. In studies in healthy adults, sucralose was well-tolerated and without evidence of toxicity or other changes that might suggest a potential for carcinogenic effects. In summary, sucralose does not demonstrate carcinogenic activity even when exposure levels are several orders of magnitude greater than the range of anticipated daily ingestion levels.

Human Health Risk Assessment of Cadmium Exposure in Dry Deposition of Atmospheric Dust (Uncertainty Analysis)

Background and purpose: The atmospheric suspended particulate matter is a major route of human exposure to different kinds of environmental pollutants especially toxic heavy metals. The aim of this study was to assess the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risk of cadmium in dry deposition of atmospheric dust in Qazvin, Iran. Materials and methods: Glass traps were used for sampling dry atmosp...

Sucralose administered in feed, beginning prenatally through lifespan, induces hematopoietic neoplasias in male swiss mice.

BACKGROUND Sucralose is an organochlorine artificial sweetener approximately 600 times sweeter than sucrose and used in over 4,500 products. Long-term carcinogenicity bioassays on rats and mice conducted on behalf of the manufacturer have failed to show the evidence of carcinogenic effects. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the carcinogenic effect of sucralose in mice, using a s...

Carcinogenicity and Anti-tumoral Effect of Parasites: A Review Study

In endemic areas, some parasitic infections may be related to cancer induction or induction of immune responses against cancer. In some cases, parasites cause disease in their host, and in other cases, they reach a biological balance with them. Parasite invasion of the host depends on some factors such as parasite species, life cycle, enzyme production, and host immunity. The results of various...

The carcinogenic effects of aspartame: The urgent need for regulatory re-evaluation.

Aspartame (APM) is an artificial sweetener used since the 1980s, now present in >6,000 products, including over 500 pharmaceuticals. Since its discovery in 1965, and its first approval by the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in 1981, the safety of APM, and in particular its carcinogenicity potential, has been controversial. The present commentary reviews the adequacy of the design and con...

Evaluation of carcinogenic potential of the herbicide glyphosate, drawing on tumor incidence data from fourteen chronic/carcinogenicity rodent studies

Abstract Glyphosate, an herbicidal derivative of the amino acid glycine, was introduced to agriculture in the 1970s. Glyphosate targets and blocks a plant metabolic pathway not found in animals, the shikimate pathway, required for the synthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants. After almost forty years of commercial use, and multiple regulatory approvals including toxicology evaluations, liter...
